Are you an authorised dealer for these products?
We are an authorised dealer for all the sunglasses and frames sold on line. We are also an authorised dealer for many other brands which we retail in our opticians shop. We are a qualified optical practice so we deal with high quality branded designer frames and lenses.
Does it come with a guarantee/warranty?
All products we sell come with a manufacturer's warranty against defects for a period of one year. This does not cover accidental damage or scratches to the frames or lenses.
Why are our prices lower online?
Like all businesses, opticians have to pay for premises and staff to deal with you but, online, these costs are significantly reduced. Our online prices are lower because we do not have to spend time with you choosing the product and advising you - you choose the frame and the lenses you want. We pass these savings on to you so you save money.
Can I purchase just the frame to take to my opticians?
Yes, you can buy just the frame.
Do I need a prescription?
For prescription spectacles, we will need a copy of your prescription that is less than two years old.
How do I obtain my prescription?
When you have your eyes examined, you are entitled to a copy of your prescription by law. If you have not been given it, then you can ask your optician for a copy of it. If you have lost your original copy there may be a charge for a second copy.
Why do you want to see a copy of my prescription?
Prescriptions can be written in several different ways - they are sometimes not very clearly written or they may be incomplete. To ensure we get your glasses right first time we have to see a copy of your prescription. We require a copy faxed to 01252 718191; a scanned copy e-mailed to info@eyemechanics.co.uk ; or a copy posted to the postal address on our home page.
How do I obtain my pupillary distance (PD)?
You can ask your optician to measure it for you and note it on your prescription, though they may charge you for this. Alternatively, you can ask a friend to measure it for you using a millimetre ruler. If you gaze across the room into the distance, get your friend to measure the outer edge of the iris on the right eye (the coloured part) to the inner part of the iris on the left eye. For an average adult this is 65mm for a man and 63mm for a lady but everyone is different so this is just a guide. Most PD measurements fall between 58 - 68 mm.
Do you accept NHS vouchers and Eyecare Vouchers?
Yes we do. All we ask is that you post to us the NHS voucher signed on both sides by you with your order details and a contact number and or e-mail so that we can deduct the correct amount from your bill. Similarly, with an Eyecare Voucher, please post it to us so we can deduct the correct amount from your bill.
What sort of lenses can I have in my glasses?
We include plastic hard coated lenses in the price of the frame. We can also supply the following options:
Anti-Reflection (AR) Coated Lenses
These lenses look better and perform better for night driving and computer work because unwanted reflections are reduced.
Polycarbonate with AR
These lenses are thinner than standard plastic so the weight and thickness of the lenses are reduced. They are impact-resistant so safer if you play sport or were involved in a car accident and come with both an anti-reflection coating and a hard-coating as standard.
Transitions lenses
These lenses react and automatically darken in bright sunlight. The lenses go from almost clear to either dark brown or to dark grey. When driving, the car windscreen stops most UV light thus preventing these lenses from reacting. You can safely drive in these lenses at night.
Sunglass tints
These are available in three different colours: dark brown, dark grey and dark green. The dark green is a green/grey colour that is a great colour for driving in sunlight. These are not suitable for driving in at night.
